Making a good conversation with your date
Being on a first date can cause you to become nervous. Someone cannot talk with date in presence of relatives or friends. Breaking ice can be easier after you are prepared. In addition you can avoid upsetting situations. There are several questions which would help you to break ice between both of you. But before this, you should know a number of things about starting a conversation.
The first you have to do is to find activity that will inspire conversation. If you don’t want to spend your date in silence, movies or concerts are not the best ideas. Silent place like museum is much better; they better fit for a conversation. If both of you like sport, it is good idea if you will attend sport even. Then you will have a nice conversation.
You can get ready with jokes, but make sure they are general or self-effacing. Don’t make fun of others. If you don’t fill comfortable joking, just skip this. The best is to be you and behave naturally.
To break an ice show your interest to your date asking questions. But make sure they are not too personal. The safest topics usually are music, work and pets. It is better to ask her interests so your date will not feel bored with what you are talking about.
If you need, you can make a plan and prepare questions which will help to draw out a conversation. For example “If you are going to be another person right now, who it would be?".
Your next questions can be about your date to help you know her better. If she has already been to a restaurant, you can ask her what the best thing on the menu is. Also you can ask what she does for fun to learn her better. If you have similar interests, you have already what to talk about. You can ask if she has a pet, some peoples like speaking about their pets. And many other questions you may ask. But be careful with asking. You just want to know enough things to figure out if you want one more date.
Let your date speak. Of course, if you will speak, she/he will listen and if she/he speaks, you should also listen. Be active on every conversation and always respond to what does your date tells you. Don’t let him/her feel that you don’t want to hear what she is saying that’s why you are not listening. Of course, this will cause another ice between both of you.
There are several things you should avoid – boasting, it is upsetting, complaining and adult language. What is more important is to be a good listener. First date is not a declamation, it is a dialog. Especially important this is for boys. You should listen and respond, but let her to street conversation. Do not make mistake trying to script things, instead have the general idea of what to ask. This will help to make conversation natural.
