wherever we turn these days it seems there is an advertisement for some type of male enhancement formula or penis enlargement method. Television and radio shows, internet sites and men’s magazines have countless ads for pills, oils, creams, patches, and penis extender enlargement devices. At the root of all this appears to be, for men, the question as to what constitutes normal male sexual performance.

There are some penis enlargement methods being advertised that are not only ineffective, they are dangerous and can cause permanent damage as well. Some of these include stretching with weights, vacuum pumps and jelging, which is a manual squeezing exercise.

Vacuum pumps are sometimes used in treating erectile dysfunction. However using a pump too often, and for a longer period of time than is typically used for treatment of ED, can damage the tissue in the penis leading to less than firm erections. The technique of wearing weights on the flaccid penis may cause permanent damage to the penis and there is no scientific evidence that this increases the size.

One procedure to lengthen the penis involves severing the ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone. The skin is moved from the abdomen to the penile shaft. When the ligament is cut it may cause the penis to look longer but only because more of it hangs down. However, cutting this ligament can cause an erect penis to position itself at odd angles, especially when it is erect.

There are also procedures to make a penis thicker which involves suctioning fat from the fleshy part of the body and injecting it into the penis. Another procedure involves moving the skin from the pubic area onto the penis. This has led to severe deformation in some cases, such as scarring, hair growth on the end of the penis, as well as other problems.
Marketing companies advertise many types of nonsurgical penis enlargement treatments including endorsements from scientific researchers. However, if you read the advertisement closely, you will see that any claims of effectiveness and safety aren’t proven. Because no reputable scientific research supports any type of nonsurgical penis enhancement, these marketers must rely on paid endorsements and before and after photos that aren’t authentic.

At the bottom of such advertisements, there is usually a sentence to the effect of "the quality of these statements has not been determined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)" – the government agency regulating medications and medical devices. Indeed, the FDA has never approved any device or medication for enlarging a penis.

While prescription drugs have proved to be somewhat effective, they often come with unwanted side effects such as hearing loss, stroke, increased heart rate or kidney failure to name just a few. It has been said that using a natural male enhancement supplement may get similar results to the prescription drugs but, without the side effects.

Many men may feel that their penis is too small and that increasing the size will make them more of a man. This usually is not the case and they are within the normal size range.
For health purposes penis enlargement and male enhancement are not recommended. If a man is feeling unhappy about his size and/or performance, he should talk to his doctor or a counselor.
